Designer's Note: Sophy, pictured here, is a featured artist on the National Picnic blog. She asked me if I could sew the "Block Party Top" style out of a fabric that was hiding in my personal stash, a gloriously drapey, thicker, totally opaque, silk crepe. (Sophy wears it here with her favorite tank top underneath.)
Unlike other tops in what we call the "Block Party Top" style, the oozy drape of this top wants to fall in toward the body and hang on it in a way that is unlike other, stiffer fabrics we make this top in. As it slides over your frame, the neckline might slide off the shoulder. This top is for those who don't mind any shape-shifting, asymmetrical effect it might take on. Like Sophy's tank top, straps will show.
This fabric is limited to what's on hand as a special edition. Made to order, allow about a week to sew it before shipping to you.
It has a matte finish from its "rougher" hand relative to shiny silk types like satin. Flat appearance with low wrinkling.
Washed and dried fabric before working with it, so these are machine washable to the end wearer.
For this one, fit is in the eye of the wearer. It is designed to drape freely over every part of the body it covers. Ordering true to size will still get you plenty of free-floatin' roomy fit. Size up for even more of a poncho look. Sophy is wearing "L-XL," which is "sizing up". Wearing "XS-M" is more true to size for her and would show a little more of her upper arm.
This top is shorter in length to balance out the volume in the width, to avoid a full-body-hider look. Your hips will not be covered. Not too cropped, this can also tuck in to higher waisted outfits for a stylish blousy effect.
This geometric silhouette is almost a pure rectangle, but there is in fact a front and back designed into the neckline to sit well on the collarbone.
This silk has been given one wash and machine dry for ease of care/pre-shrink purposes, but still...hand or machine wash cold, smooth out wrinkles while damp, dry flat. Repeated heated washes/dries may continue to shrink the fabric or cause wear to appear sooner with the dyes.
Iron on silk setting if desired.
Made in the USA of imported silk of unknown origin.
